September 2006 Entries

Well, right now I'm currently writing a wizard. And yes, while doing it, I'm wearing a wizard hat and a wand is attatched to my keyboard.

Actually it is the account Upgrade wizard for my company and it has been needing some polishing for sometime. In an attempt to keep everything modular and in the attempt we won't have to do a code release if something needs to be rearranged, due to some caching, XML configuration file, and some javascript magic, it can. This flexability is why I'm at work on a Saturday however, I think it should help out in the long run when screens are moved around / added / removed.

And now for the other stuff ...
I believe this week I'll start doing some coding on my automatic bartender.
First part will be the drink list and search subsystem.

Second part will be the part that will determine how long a drink must be poured based on available PSI, vicocity of the liquid, and conversion from ounce / shot to volume (it is going through a tube)

Third part is going to be actually the hardware aspect of this. I haven't really had time to research this but when talking with my old man, he mentioned the idea of actually using tracks / motors to reduce the amount of valves needed. (yes, robots ... get me my drink ).

Fourth is to start integrating.

Fifth is to get whatever new cellphone i get to work with it so I can have a nice beverage ready for me when I get home from work.

When you combine the things I love, you have one of the most addicting toys ever. Starwars Lego II for 360 is that.

Starwars + video games + Legos = awesome

Now if you throw in bacon, Radiohead, and Beer ... I don't think anything can beat it.

Well, I've been busy and I have yet to actually get what I need to get done ... well ... done.

I saw the new iPods and really really want one cause my 3G ipod is about dead. A Zune looks nice but something says 2nd gen might be needed. I could encode TV, transfer, then watch it on the CTA to work.

I've done a few decent deploys at work over at SpringCM too. We launched our new 3.4.5 build on the 6th and it was pretty sweet. There are some nice 3.5 new features that are complete and ready to go as soon as that is released. Not totally sure if I'm allowed to say what I'm working on right now or what those features are but it is kind of cool both from a business and tech end. While I was pretty much told I had to recode a visual control I wrote today at 5ish, because it didn't express progress enough, eh, all is fair in love and war. Gives me more time to mess with XML and serialization.

What else, other than lack of sleep due to a ton of awesome things happening in Chicago and hanging out with friends, not much.

I really haven't had much time to do research into my two other projects, the .net segway and the .net automated bartender. The bartender will come before the segway. I'm becoming more warry of that due to concurancy issues with an OS. Something taking up too much processing time and I end up smack on the pavement.

Well, I have an upconversion, but I need more voltage to my motors. Hopefully a relay will do it.

Or maybe I can change from straight gears to a belt system.
